AT&T to acquire TCI for $37.3 bilion

Article Abstract:

AT&T has announced it has agreed to acquire Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI) for $37.3 billion in cash and stock, and the assumption of $11 billion in debt. The deal allows AT&T to aggressively pursue the $100 billion-a-year local-phone market after years of unsuccessful attempts on its own. The deal would combine the network capability and brand of AT&T with TCI's broadband cable wires in dozens of states and its programming assets that reach most of the nation's more than 65 million cable subscribers.
