Telecommunications overhaul approved by House

Article Abstract:

The House passed a major telecommunications bill on Aug 4, 1995, by a vote of 305 to 117. The bill deregulates the television broadcasting, cable and telephone industries. It also imposes new curbs on violence and obscene materials on television and the Internet. Pres Clinton may veto the bill.

Senate passes telecommunications overhaul: deregulation, Internet smut addressed

The US Senate voted 81-18 to approve a major telecommunications bill that will ease restrictions on the television, cable television, telephone and radio industries. An amendment to the bill makes it illegal to transmit pornographic materials via computer networks such as the Internet.
