Ten chances for prosperity in the decade of change

Article Abstract:

The decade of 2000-2010 in Australia will be prosperous and see many changes, especially in the domination of knowledge management over capital market power. Change will also come as businesses cut costs by using electronic transaction capabilities. Important fields in which Australia will play a big role are biotechnology, high technology, and nanotechnology. The end of Australia's economic isolation will create a global business model for the business environment. Businesses that understand the importance of electronic relationships with customers will succeed. Relations with the Asian markets and an overall willingness to adapt to social change will allow Australia to prosper.

Coles Myer, and the nation, are standing at the gates of change

Article Abstract:

Coles Myer will reshape the electronic world with the help of Microsoft. Even with a budget surplus of $5.4 billion for 1999-2000 and the goods and services tax, Australia may not compete with the rest of the world, as it grapples with its current-account deficit. For industry growth, a return to the 150% research-development deduction is essential. Savings are expected to fall from 3% of income to 1%. The Superannuation bill is 30% (or 2788 million) of Public Service. Domestic consumption will slow.
