Article Abstract:

AstraZeneca (Sweden/UK), pharmaceutical company, plans to go on with the research and development of new drugs in the Czech Republic in 1999. Astra (Sweden) and Zeneca (UK), which set up the firm as a merger in 1999, invested more than 100 mil Kc in research and development in the Czech Republic in 1998. Despite overall decline in the local economy, AstraZeneca wants to raise its share on the Czech market in 1999. Astra alone saw sales of 460 mil Kc in the Czech Republic in 1998. AstraZeneca is the second largest pharmaceutical company in Europe and one of the five largest worldwide.

An interview with stock analysts Ray Kurtz and John Tozzi, heads of the Cambridge capital investment management firm, is presented. Cambridge favors consumer and capital-goods stocks over high technology stocks. Stocks Cambridge favors include Scientific Computers, Jeffrey Martin, Alco Standard, Kysor International, James River, and Fruehauf. Tozzi and Kurtz also like Chrysler and Ford, along with oil exploration firm Woods Petroleum. Some stocks Cambridge treasures as undervalued assets include Bell & Howell, National Education Corp. and Freedom Savings & Loan.
