The currency crunch

Article Abstract:

The rapid appreciation in the value of the Australian currency, dollar affects investment and purchase decisions, slashes exports, shrinks profits, increases costs to the manufacturers etc. are some of the ill effects of rising dollar. The manufacturing firms are trying to make judgments whether it is cheaper to make or buy certain products, thus combating currency movements is an issue faced by manufacturing concerns.

Dividends bonanza

Australian companies are left with surplus funds with no potential targets for acquisition or commercial exploitation. They are opting to reward the shareholders with higher dividends instead of reinvesting the excess cash. The implications such a move will have are discussed.
