Multinational corporations, industrialists, investors, and governments must adopt a global perspective on industrial activities and environmental matters before more land is devalued by pollution. A joint solution is necessary because of the fluid nature of capital and because ecological problems know no boundaries. A new set of global ethics might inform shareholders as to what activities are proper.

Global capital has increased greatly between 1988 and 1998 with industry analysts claiming world finance is entering a new phase. Growth is related to currency transactions. Australian institutional investors have 20% of their share portfolio in international investments, more than the major economies of the US and Japan. International corporate governance has become more important as a result.
