The effects of cognitive problem-solving orientation and technological familiarity on faster new product development

Article Abstract:

A study of cognitive problem-solving abilities in team leaders and members in the development of new products reveals that faster product development depends on the leaders' and team members' cognitive problem-solving skills more than on technical knowledge. Leaders who had technical knowledge but had less adaptive problem-solving skills and members who were more innovative in approaching problems handled new product development faster. Team leaders and members should, therefore, be selected according to their abilities and knowledge to ensure the success of new product development.
