Article Abstract:

The issue concerning payment of partner remuneration of Australia's largest law firms is analyzed. The revenue and projected profitability and the number of the partners and staff of the largest law firms are presented. The preferred lock-step approach is replaced by the merit-based partner remuneration by the largest law firms.

Insurers join the Esso hunt

Article Abstract:

Insurance companies are adding their weight to the negligence civil action suit against Esso over a gas explosion in Victoria in September 1998. The joint lawsuit was filed by law firms Slater and Gordon and Maurice Blackburn Cashman. The class action has attracted more than 12,000 Victorian gas consumers and small businesses.

Many lawyers working in Australian law firms complain they are not very happy despite the high level of demand for their services. Many feel they are asked to do too much work although they are rewarded well, with high salaries. Some firms have introduced additional perks to help retain staff.
