The outlook for productivity growth

Article Abstract:

Total industrial productivity increased an average of 2.6 percent each year between 1948 and 1966, an additional 2.6 percent per year between 1966 and 1973, yet just 0.2 percent between 1973 and 1981. Fast growth in real income per worker will result in an immediate increase in personal income tax brackets. An influx of new employees to the U.S. workforce has been part of the reason that productivity growth has been slow.
