The Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC has returned to Australia after an absence of 10 years to specialize in project debt finance. Royal Bank's reputation for innovation has been buoyed in the United Kingdom with its joint venture strategies combining its financial services with the partner's strong brand name and customer network. Since 1992, Royal Bank has amassed profits of $2.5 billion. Royal Bank's five-person subsidiary office is in Sydney.

VAT '73 ain;t what it used to be

Article Abstract:

The value-added tax (VAT) system that the UK has used since 1973 may offer some value insights as Australia plans to institute a goods and services tax. For example, the VAT tax began at a rate of 10% and was applicable at each level of production and distribution. However, over the years, the rate and scope of the VAT tax has increased. The current standard VAT tax rate in the UK is 17.5%.

High-fliers come crashing down

Article Abstract:

In March 1999, James Archer and four other arbitrage traders, known as the Flaming Ferraris, were accused of share-price rigging and fired by Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB). Archer is now planning to sue CSFB for loss of bonus earnings. Also, Archer and his colleagues are attempting to focus the blame for illegal trades on their former employer.
