The smallest museum in Russia: Akhmatova lived here (and lives here still)

Article Abstract:

Akhmatova lived in a small apartment in St Petersburg, Russia, from 1925-52, and her former home is now a museum to the influential Russian poet. The spartan furnishings reveal the conditions under which Akhmatova wrote some of her best works such as 'Poem Without a Hero.'

'U.S.A.,' Dos Passos' 1938 three-part novel of American culture and history, was hailed as a masterpiece by the literary elite of the time. However, he never developed a distinctive style or voice, and his turn to conservative politics soured the elite on his work.

Long lives the Mockingbird

Article Abstract:

Monroeville is the birthplace of 'Mockingbird' author Harper Lee, and a theatrical adaptation of the novel is staged on the courthouse grounds each spring. Other landmarks of the desegregation era of the early 1960s are described.
