The women's perspective

Article Abstract:

A recent conference sponsored by the National Association of Accountants and the American Society of Women Accountants addressed the professional and family concerns of women accountants. Management Accounting conducted a survey of the participants and discovered that: 43% of participants work in manufacturing: 49% work for large companies with revenues in excess of $100 million; and 65% have bachelor's degrees. Results also show that 46% have a CPA, and most were in their thirties and forties. The women's main concerns centered around employers' lack of support for family issues and lack of equal compensation. Approximately half of the women believe that men with the same credentials are earning $5,000 to $10,000 more for the same job, and 36% felt they did not have the same opportunities for job advancement as men.
