This digital combo starts with organizer and adds a cell phone

Article Abstract:

By the end of the year, Handspring is introducing the VisorPhone, at $299, a tiny cellular phone that snaps on to your Visor personal digital assistant allowing the customer to send and receive E-mail, surf the Web, and, of course, make and receive calls. Snap on the tiny application and all the software is instantly loaded, displaying the phone keypad and speed-dial list on the Visor's screen. The earpiece is angled so you aren't smudging the screen or you can use a headset. The VisorPhone operates on GSM standard.

Microsoft to offer handheld product called Palm PC

Article Abstract:

Microsoft is expected to introduce product design for a new handheld computer named Palm PC. The new specifications would represent Microsoft's latest entry into the handheld-computer market. Palm PC would offer similar size and capabilities to Palm Computing's PalmPilot product. Palm Computing, a 3Com subsidiary, has contacted Microsoft's lawyers to criticize the name choice so close to its own. Palm Computing also said it is considering stronger retaliation if Microsoft or its hardware allies market their products under the Palm PC name. Palm PC, like the PalmPilot, would enable users to enter information with a pen-like accessory. Included in the Microsoft specifications are a 32-bit microprocessor chip and a connection for communication with a PC. Users also could attach a slot, the size of a postage stamp, to accessories that include a modem. Philips, Casio Computer, LG Electronics and Uniden are among the companies expected to manufacture devices using the Microsoft specifications.
