Trucking & transport leasing

Article Abstract:

Less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers are not yet recovering from the Teamsters Union strike in 1994. LTL profits declined in 1995 from 1994, but profits for 1996 are expected to increase after the LTL rate raise of 5.8% at the beginning of the year. The companies comprising the truckload sector of the industry are also expected to have higher earnings in 1996. However, these stocks are untimely and will probably underperform the market in 1996 and 1997.

Trucking & transport leasing

Article Abstract:

Trucking and transport leasing stocks rank near the bottom in timeliness of those of all industry tracked. Although some stocks look favorable out to 3- to 5-years, appreciation is by no means certain, and generally investors are urged to be cautious. Uncertainties include the unknown volume of industrial production and the continued need and cost of company restructurings. Even short-term forecasts are highly speculative.

Trucking & transport leasing

Article Abstract:

Rising labor rates, price competition, and weak demand combined to make 1995 a poor year for the less-than-truckload segment of the trucking industry. Rate cutting and a sluggish economy have also hurt the truckload carriers. Cost cutting, a 5.8% rate increase, and improved demand should make 1996 a better year for less-than truckload lines. Trucking stocks declined in 1995 and are not timely for investors in 1996.
