Tsongas narrowly wins Maine caucus over Brown; Kerry earns solid victory in South Dakota primary

Bob Kerry won the Democratic South Dakota primary, followed by Tom Harkin, Bill Clinton, Paul Tsongas, and Jerry Brown. Pres Bush won the Republican primary in South Dakota. Tsongas won in the Maine Caucus, followed closely by Brown; Clinton, Harkin, and Kerrey trailed far behind.

Brown scores upset in Connecticut primary

Jerry Brown won the Mar 24, 1992, Connecticut Democratic presidential primary with 37% of the vote, narrowly beating Bill Clinton, who received 36% of the vote. Pres Bush easily beat Patrick Buchanan in the Connecticut Republican primary.

Tsongas quits race after Clinton wins Democratic primaries in Michigan and Illinois; Buchanan GOP challenge fades

Article Abstract:

Democratic presidential candidate Paul Tsongas withdrew from the 1992 campaign after Bill Clinton won the Michigan and Illinois primaries. Pat Buchanan won only 22% of the vote in the Illinois primary and 25% in Michigan.
