U.S. Senate votes on trade status

Article Abstract:

The Senate on Feb 25, 1992, voted to continue the most favored trading partner status of China on the condition that China improve its record in the areas of human rights, arms proliferation, and trade. The vote fell short of the two-thirds margin necessary to override a likely presidential veto.

Senate approves $34.3 billion for RTC

Article Abstract:

The Senate approved a financing bill to provide the RTC and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp with $34.3 billion to aid in the savings and loan bailout. The Senate Banking Committee had approved $45 billion in Mar 1993, but political pressures and revised cost estimates lowered the amount.

Senate kills striker-replacement bill

Article Abstract:

The Senate voted against a bill that would have prohibited the hiring of permanent employees to replace striking workers. Opponents of the legislation stated that the law would give unions an unfair advantage in negotiations.
