U.S. corporate earnings forecast: major market indexes

Article Abstract:

A survey of security analysts by the Institutional Brokers Estimate System reveals that corporate operating earnings will post 21.2% increase in 1995 and 22.2% growth in 1996. For 1995, the basic industries sector ranks first in the list of industries with the expected highest corporate earnings followed by the technology, transportation and energy sectors. For 1996, the transportation and technology sectors are expected to yield the highest corporate earnings.

Article Abstract:

US corporate earnings in 1992 are projected to increase by 26.2%. The forecast is based on the US Institutional Brokers Estimate System (I/B/E/S) Universe of 4,026 publicly traded companies as of Sep 16, 1992. The Sep 1992 survey conducted by I/B/E/S of 2,400 security analysts belonging to more than 150 institutional brokerage and research firms also predicted a 25.1% growth in US corporate earnings for 1993.

Corporate earnings forecasts for the major market indexes in 1995 and 1996 are presented. Forecasts are based on 4,736 publicly traded firms covered by the Institutional Brokers Estimate System and are sorted according to 11 economic sectors, 15 industries with the highest expected 1995 earnings growth and 15 industries with the lowest expected 1995 earnings growth.
