U.S. imposes punitive tariffs on Chinese imports; China retaliates; talks' resumption planned

Article Abstract:

The US plans to impose 100% tariffs on Chinese imports on Feb 26, 1995, unless talks scheduled for Feb 13, 1995, resolve the trade crisis. The US is angry that China has not done more to prevent the sale of pirated US goods. China, in retaliation, also imposed 100% tariffs.

U.S. missile attack targets Iraqi intelligence agency; Baghdad raid retaliates for Bush 'death plot.' (plot to assassinate former U.S. President George Bush)

Article Abstract:

The US defended its Jun 26, 1993, aerial bombing of Iraq's intelligence headquarters before the UN security council. The US said the attack, which killed eight people, was justified because Iraq had plotted to murder former Pres Bush during his visit to Kuwait.

Ministers discuss tariffs, GATT

Article Abstract:

Trade ministers from the US, EC, Canada and Japan met to discuss trade barriers on May 14, 1993, in Toronto, Canada. The ministers hoped to reduce tariffs on goods such as medical equipment, drugs and construction equipment.
