U.S. sets antidumping tariffs on steel

Article Abstract:

The Commerce Department on Jan 27, 1993, established tariffs on steel imports from 19 countries accused by the US steel industry of selling steel in the US at prices lower than in the exporters' domestic markets. Canada established tariffs on steel imports from several countries two days later.

U.S.-Canada panel strikes lumber duties

Article Abstract:

Canadian exporters celebrated the decision of a trade panel comprised of representatives from the US and Canada, which ordered the Commerce Dept to reevaluate the 6.5% tariff imposed on Canadian imports of softwood lumber to the US.

U.S. softwood ruling sparks row

Article Abstract:

The Commerce Department plans to impose a duty of 14.48% on Canadian exports of softwood lumber in response to the unfair price subsidies on lumber by Canada. The Canadian government is protesting the decision.
