U.S. to airlift food, medicine to ex-Soviet states

Article Abstract:

The US will begin airlifting emergency shipments of food and medicine to the Commonwealth of Independent States in Feb 1992. The announcement of the air shipments came during a conference of aid donors attended by 47 nations and five institutions.

Airlift of food, medicine begins

Fourteen countries began providing food and medical supplies to 23 areas in the Commonwealth of Independent States on Feb 10, 1992. Russia has criticized the US' involvement in Operation Provide Hope as being only symbolic.

U.S. Senate ratifies START

Article Abstract:

The Senate ratified START on Oct 1, 1992, by a vote of 93 to six. START requires the US and the former Soviet Union to implement a 30% reduction in long-range nuclear arsenals.
