Understanding management performance

Article Abstract:

A study looking into the relationship between managers' performance at work and their personality traits found the attributes of managers who were seen as promotable differed from those who were judged as competent. The results of the study has some significance for those involved in the promotion of managers. Managers who are good at their job are not necessarily seen by others as having the right attributes to be considered for promotion. Some 437 managers, from a wide range of functions, were questioned for the study. The managers worked for five UK organizations.

Labour market flexibility, human resource management and corporate performance

Article Abstract:

Research into the connections between companies' use of flexible work systems, industrial relations and human resource procedures on one side, and corporate performance on the other side, is presented. It is concluded that policies designed to boost labour market flexibility are negatively correlated with innovation.
