Unpacking Commitment: Multiple Loyalties and Employee Behaviour

Article Abstract:

Co-workers, customers, one's immediate superior, the union, and the union representative are found to be separate foci of commitment for employees, distinct from their overall commitment to the organization. Research shows that overall commitment mediates the interaction of foci-specific employee commitments and organization-oriented outcomes.

Analysing the Influence of Institutional, Organizational and Interpersonal Forces in Shaping Inter-Organizational Relations

Article Abstract:

Findings show that trust in organizations emerges when strong institutional forces foster common obligations for the parties involved, and when power relations are comparable. The absence of these two factors diminishes incentives for involved parties to develop and maintain relations.

The authors promote a synthesis of prospective thinking and fitted explanation to advance theory building. This approach was applied to analysis of employees' social categorizations and the ways in which these influence employee responses to role change.
