Intelligent Systems Corp. is one of the many high- technology stocks popular with investors in 1983. Intelligent Systems, which went public in 1983, has received little investor attention till 1983. The company manufactures graphics display equipment for computers. But earnings have been miniscule, and there is little hope of improvement in the future. The recession and fierce competition have both hurt Intelligent Systems' sales.

Sensormatic is the leading manufacturer of electronic security systems for stores, and has been enjoying rapid growth. But, although Sensormatic has barely tapped its market, it is facing increasing competition expecially from a new firm financed by conglomerate Pitney-Bowes.

The stock-market rally of 1983 has been very profitable for brokerage houses, many of which have decided to go public. The brokerage house of Rooney Pace is the latest broker to have issued its own stock. However, Rooney Pace stock may be greatly overpriced. In addition, Rooney Pace is being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
