User satisfaction with computer-mediated communication systems

Article Abstract:

Interactive computer systems known as computer-mediated communication systems (CMCS) should be considered 'socio-technical' systems whose acceptance is affected by the interaction between certain characteristics of individuals, groups and organizations, and the systems themselves. Analysis of questionnaires that were completed by new CMCS users identified the two instrumental dimensions, satisfaction with the interface and system performance, and the two emotional dimensions, unexpressive and mode problems. Managers must consider the quality of the fit between a CMCS system and users in order to ensure successful implementation.

Human Diagnostic Reasoning by Computer: An Illustration from Financial Analysis

Article Abstract:

In addition to an answer, provided by most decision models, decision makers want an 'explanatory path' to support the decision. Such a path was built into a computer model, after analyzing human behavior in evaluating a firm's financial data. Computer programs are weak in dealing with ambiguous, poorly defined situations, but this approach strengthens this aspect of modeling. A path for future effort in this regard is laid out.

On the Diffusion of Computer Terminals in an Established Engineering Environment

Article Abstract:

A mathematical model that predicts a rate of acceptance of a modern computing capability in an engineering environment is described. The prediction is for the number of interactive terminals that will be used. The diffusion model is a reasonable predictor of the response of an organization to an innovation.
