Virus gives 'Love' a bad name; dependence on 'Outlook' feeds the love-hate many have with Microsoft

Article Abstract:

The lightning spread of the 'Love Virus' has highlighted Microsoft's dominance of the E-mail software market. The virus was programmed to replicate itself through the Microsoft Outlook software that many corporations rely on. Network security managers criticized the design of Outlook as unnecessarily vulnerable to viruses in that it lacks certain security features and has too many customizable features that can be manipulated by hackers.

Microsoft scrambles to launch software

Article Abstract:

Microsoft plans to unveil its Next Generation Windows Services (NGWS) in ten days, but has still not established how it will be marketed. NGWS is Microsoft's attempt to adapt Windows to the Internet, and will involve a new range of Web services and tools. The company must steer clear of violating antitrust rules in trying to gain market share for NGWS.

Microsoft courts large-server software business

Microsoft is also attempting to cater to the customer service quality that huge businessess demand from a network software system.
