Article Abstract:

Radio broadcasters are discovering that using Internet Web sites to broadcast audio programs and visually market the radio station's brand is relatively inexpensive and has a potentially huge, worldwide audience. Though audio streaming technology is relatively primitive, the percentage of American Internet users who used the Web for radio broadcasts increased in one year from 18% to 30%. Start-up costs for a new entrant to traditional radio broadcasting is at least $20 million. An Internet radio start-up costs less than $3 million.
