Will the Empire Strike Back?

Article Abstract:

Since the end of World War II, Britains, who can be tenacious and resourceful during a crisis, have begun to become complacent, expecting the world to support and take care of them. Margaret Thatcher saw the downfall of the British spirit and decided to do something about it. Since she became Prime Minister in 1979, she has taken steps to insure that business becomes competitive, and that Britains become independent. She has encouraged the growth of small business and the entrepreneurial spirit. Tax breaks are needed to help shake out the static business economy, and although foreign companies may put money into Great Britain, British firms often make their money elsewhere. Things are slowly changing, and Great Britain's people, who were once loath to describe themselves as businesspeople, are discovering that being an entrepreneur or a businessperson is not a stigma - it is something to be proud of.
