A DEA approach for evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of urban transit systems

Article Abstract:

A research is carried out to investigate two important issues in transit operations, the relationship between efficiency and effectiveness and performance and scale economies. After using data from the 256 US transit systems over a period of five-years, it is observed that the relationship between efficiency and effectiveness are positive and that the magnitude of scale economies depends on the output specification.

Development of an expert system for the evaluation of conventional and innovative technologies in the intermodal transport area

Article Abstract:

An expert system, that attempts to imitate human expertise, the stimulation and cost calculation modules are analyzed to evaluate conventional and innovative technologies in the intermodal transport area. The results of the analysis revealed the similarities and differences for the various terminal configurations and that each design was effective for a certain cargo.

Value of risk calculation through ARCH factor methodology: proposal and comparative analysis

Article Abstract:

A new method to estimate value at risk (VaR), autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic (ARCH) factor, which combines multivariate analysis with ARCH models, is described. The characteristics and peculiarities of the ARCH factor and the results obtained from them are discussed.
