While polls indicate the Socialist Party will be soundly defeated in the Mar 1993 parliamentary elections, Pres Francois Mitterrand has said he will complete the last two years of his term. It remains to be seen how well France would function under a divided government.

Article Abstract:

Former French prime minister Pierre Beregovoy, distraught over the Socialist Party's 1993 electoral defeat and accusations of impropriety against him, killed himself on May 1, 1993. Some have compared Beregovoy's suicide to the suicide of Roger Salengro in 1936.
