A cafe with a view

Article Abstract:

Apicella Associates faced a great challenge in designing a new, second-floor restaurant in the Oxo Tower on the south bank of the River Thames in London, UK. The restaurant, which opens in July 1996, provides a natural upper-level extension to the riverside walkway. Apicella's task was to retain the original warehouse structure, which was dark and resembled a tunnel, while still creating a design offering the lightness of a riverside cafe. Apicella also had to keep to a tight budget.

Tonkin Architects have designed a noodle bar in Bristol, England. The architects used many of the architectural design features found in Japan and have incorporated them into the restaurant. Tonkin Architects have also been involved in designing a private house in Hong Kong, with influences from both the UK and China. The majority of work carried out by Tonkin is in Hong Kong but they have shown they are able to work successfully in other countries.
