Full steam ahead!

Article Abstract:

UK merger activity increased rapidly in 1997, leading to a shortage of skilled finance executives, who can demonstrate the ability to develop new business, work on the Continent and may be speak a foreign language. Employees who fit the requirements can be assured of high salaries and company benefits. Analysts are trying to discover whether the mergers boom is driven by market trends or cash-rich firms who want to spend their money on expanding.

Greater concentration required

Article Abstract:

Large European construction and building concerns are facing a period of dramatic change, with the key competitive factor being risk management. The move towards consolidation is driven by financial structure, the search for new and interrelating businesses, and cost-related issues. Catalysts for major change are seen to be the size and financial health of the company.
