Article Abstract:

Independents are an increasing proportion of the US electorate, and could account for a third of voters, including those who do not register as independents. This is especially true for younger voters and professionals in the technology industry. Underdogs are more likely to succeed as a result of growing numbers of independents. White working class voters are also likely to be independent, and their role is likely to be increasingly important. There is a lack of cohesion among independents, and their rise may be linked to a focus on personalities.

There is a large number of US presidential candidates, many of whom are using the Internet for their campaigns. Larry Hines is the first candidate to be openly gay, while the platform of David Wyatt is based on 'The Wall', an album by Pink Floyd. Parties represented include the Puritan Party, the Pansexual Peace Party, and the Family Values Party. There is a contest between candidates to represent the Libertarian Party and the Green Party.
