Urban renewal and the restoration of historic buildings in urban centers, have become more popular in Brazil, while Peru and Mexico have also made efforts to preserve historic buildings. The Brazilian federal government, UNESCO and the Inter-American Development Bank are collaborating on a restoration plan called Monumenta. The urban middle classes have become increasingly interested in restoration, interest in which has also been boosted by the tourist potential of historic buildings.
