Brazilian Pres Fernando Henrique Cardoso has significantly reduced inflation and energized the nation's economy, but he still faces stiff opposition for reelection. Workers' Party leader Luiz Inacio da Silva, known as Lula, is a popular figure who could possibly unseat Cardoso.
