A kick start

Article Abstract:

Australia's capital market is vigorous despite certain problems that exist between governmental investment regulations and private investors' perceptions of viability. While the country is in great need of investments for road and electricity projects, private entrepreneurs are not satisfied with the government's position on ownership of those projects and are thus reluctant to initiate investment activity. Nevertheless, the government has come up with attractive options such as the introduction of tax efficient bonds.

Recovery postponed

Article Abstract:

Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating is set to propose an economic program that will address the problems of economic stagnation and increasing unemployment rates in the country. The depressed state of the Australian economy is reflected in forecasts of zero real annual GDP growth, and an unemployment rate of 10.75% for 1992. However, constraints imposed by the country's budget deficit make major efforts by the government highly unlikely.
