A leap of faith

Article Abstract:

Sun Life Financial is benefitting from its sponsorship of CBC's mega-epic 'Canada: A People's History,' which was ignored by other companies including Canadian Pacific. Since its introduction on Oct 22, 2000, the C$25-million series has been watched by an average of 2.2 million viewers of all ages per episode, making it the most-watched Canadian documentary ever. Also, video and book tie-ins are enjoying strong sales, and as of Jan 2001, Sprint Canada's sister company Ascenda had signed on as second sponsor.

Views mixed on new TV channels

Article Abstract:

Cable and satellite companies have launched specialized cable television networks that the CRTC have required them to offer. Media directors have mixed forecasts on the success of the 21 channels. Most prefer to wiat and see since details on launch dates and packages are not yet available. Some are also concerned over potential cannibalism by owners of several channels. Fragmentation was also a concern with the leap in channel choices for an audience that is not really growing.
