A new approach to factory homes

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers should view prefabricated housing production like any other production line, according to John Miles of Ove Arup & Partners. Miles believes that this concept will enable prefabrication techniques to succeed where they have failed before, because it means the company will focus on designing the factory rather than the house. Miles concedes that it will take time to convince the homebuilders of the benefits of prefabrication, but Arup has designed a factory capable of producing up to 12 homes per day and requiring investment of less than 5 million pounds sterling.
