A shrunken cyclic inspection schedule for deteriorating production stages

Article Abstract:

A three-stage heuristic for solving an inspection scheduling problem with the objective of minimizing the ratio of nonconforming manufactured item is proposed. The heuristic, which solves the problem within an integer nonlinear programming framework, relaxes the original problem to derive an upper bound and optimal allocation of the inspection efforts. It generates a shrunken cyclic schedule by trimming idle periods from a cyclic schedule that it derives from the relaxed problem.

The resource constrained project scheduling problem with multiple crashable modes: a heuristic procedure

Article Abstract:

A multi-pass heuristic method was created to resolve a problem related to nonpreemptive resource constrained project scheduling. The method begins with a viable schedule and implements six improvement rules to enhance the schedule. Data obtained from 100 problem cases tested showed that the heuristic method was able to yield solutions that are much better than those obtained using the Erenguc and Ahn procedure and the Sprecher procedure.

A note on the rule for sequential selection

Article Abstract:

The sequential selection model proposed by Kwan and Yuan is extended and solved as a simple search problem. It is shown that the Kwan-Yuan model for sequential selection applies also to a general problem where there are multiple positions for non-identical jobs. However, the model was not optimal when there is a cost of delay. A new example which demonstrates a pairwise interchange process is presented.
