A two-phase model for planning the production of aluminum ingot

Article Abstract:

The aluminum ingot casting process suffers from an important scheduling problem. The nature of the casting process is such that it is difficult to produce an ingot mix which exactly matches demand. Producers either import what is required from outside sources or they trim wider ingots according to buyers' specifications. A two-phase model to address this scheduling problem is presented. It is shown that the proper use of the model can significantly reduce ingot misapplication import.

Hierarchical model for production planning in the case of uncertain demand

Article Abstract:

The hierarchical production planning problem for a multiperiod model comprised of an aggregate planning level and a detailed planning level in the face of uncertain demand is analyzed. It is shown that robust production plans which can be disaggregated to a feasible detailed plan for every possible demand is appropriate. Static and dynamic sets with sufficient conditions for robustness are derived.

An interactive heuristic for financial planning in decentralized organizations

Article Abstract:

A framework for an interactive heuristic production planning procedure is presented for decentralized organizational decision models with multiple goals that may be conflicting within and between decision levels. The proposed framework is designed to solve the planning problem using a low number of information exchanges between the decision levels.
