AIR-INDIA PLANS 'CLASSIC SWAP' FOR SMALL AIRCRAFT

Article Abstract:

Air-India (AI) plans to substitute its 747-200s, called Classics, with smaller capacity aircraft on routes where traffic is less. It had sought clearance from the Government of India for buying 3 A310 aircraft which was denied as the needed funds are not available. It has now opted for 'Classics swap' with smaller aircraft like A310. About 12 companies, including airlines and aircraft leasing ones, have responded to the swap offer. It has asked them for financial bids for Classics. It had sold 2 Classics for Rs110 crore earlier. (rk)
