AJ gets a face for the '90s; the Architects' Journal has a fresh new design next week

Article Abstract:

The Architect's Journal (AJ) has been redesigned by Mike Lackersteen. Lackersteen, a leading magazine designer, appreciated the good briefing he was given by the editor, Stephen Greenberg and approached the design with regard to the nature of the journal and its readers. The AJ invested in market research and the redesign has been accompanied by a change in editorial policy. The magazine will be more practical and the new layout with modern typefaces and strong visual impact will be easier to read.

Two new water treatment works demonstrate the value of many original Victorian water works buildings. Wessex Water commissioned architect, Graham Carruthers Partnership to design a new building at its Ashford site. The style chosen pays tribute to the adjacent Victorian buildings. North East Water's building at Whittle Dene also combines Victorian and modern structures and the architect, Douglass Wise and Partners has designed a building which reflects its rural setting.
