Matiz, the small car of Daewoo Motor (DM), will be launched in October 1998 in India. Hyundai launched its small car, Santro, in India in September 1998. Both the companies are competing with each other in the small car segment outside South Korea. Matiz is a success in Korea. It is priced $5,000. Its structure is heavier with a different suspension system and ground clearance to suit the roads in India. DM makes 20,000 cars a month in South Korea and has a market share of 40 percent. (rk)

Daewoo Motors India will soon sign a memorandum of understanding with the government for the introduction of its small car, Matiz. The company will submit details like equity, total investment, manufacturing facilities, indigenisation level, import plans and past performance. It will then apply to the Director General for Foreign Trade for permission to import over 50,000 kits. Matiz may be launched in September 1998. (khr)

DAEWOO MOTORS FIXES MATIZ PRICE LOWER THAN ZEN'S

Daewoo Motors (DM) has announced the prices of its small car, Matiz. The price of the car will be Rs3.19 lakh in Delhi and Rs3.39 lakh in Mumbai. The luxury model of the car will be priced Rs3.42 lakh in Delhi and Rs3.75 lakh in Mumbai. Compared to the price of the Zen model car of Maruti Udyog Ltd, the standard Matiz will be cheaper by Rs60,000 and the luxury model by Rs30,000. (gs)
