ARCHIES GREETINGS AND GIFTS: GREETABLE PERFORMANCE

Archies Greetings and Gifts Ltd (AGGL) has tied-up with American Greetings Corporation and Gibson Greetings of the US to produce their designs in India. It has tied-up with Portal Publications of the US to produce the Paper Magic brand of cards. It also produces cards for Helpage India, an institute for the under- privileged and elderly. The company declared sales of Rs46.05 crore against projections of Rs45 crore in 1997-98. It posted a net profit of Rs4.75 crore against projections of Rs3.90 crore. AGGL has pre-paid all its outstanding debts and become a zero- debt company in 1997-98. The company has 281 greeting card galleries in 75 cities across India. It has also set up 29 Paper Rose Shops which will stock all AGGL products. (khr)

Archies Greetings and Gifts Ltd (AGGL) has posted a growth of 8.6 percent growth in sales on an annualised basis for the first half of 1998-99. It has posted a net profit growth of 83 percent for the first half of 1998-99. Its operating margin is 18 percent for first half of 1998-99. Its net margin has increased to 11.66 percent from 10.25 percent. It is a zero debt company. The promoters hold 67 percent stake, SBI Mutual Fund seven percent, Birla Mutual Fund 3.5 percent, and financial institutional investors one percent stake in the equity of the company. It has projected an annual growth rate of 25 percent in sales and about 50 percent in net profit for the next two years. Its paid up capital is Rs3.25 crore. (rk)

Archies Greeting and Gifts (AGG) produces and sells greeting cards. Now it has 358 exclusive galleries are in India for selling greeting cards. The promoters of AGG now hold 67 percent stake in the company. Among its new ventures are the `Vision 2000' stores, where 85 percent of the shelf space is meant for AGG's products. AGG has also launched Indipop music and gift items. It has tie-ups with American Greetings Corporation and Gibson Greetings, both of USA. It has declared an interim dividend of 20 percent for 1998-99. (uh)
