AUSTRIA: BOOM FOR ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLES

Article Abstract:

In 1999, 14,410 all-wheel-drive vehicles were sold in Austria, up 31.4% from 1998. The share of off-road cars of total car sales rose from 3.71% to 4.59%. The share of diesel vehicles in this segment rose from 55.6% to 59.8%. According to figures by OAMTC, Suzuki was the leader in the off-road segment, selling 3,254 vehicles. It was followed by Toyota (1,576 vehicles), Mitsubishi (1,327 vehicles), Honda (1,261 vehicles), Chrysler (1,240 vehicles), Rover (1,160 vehicles) and Nissan (1,063 vehicles). The best-selling model was the Suzuki Grand Vitara, at 1,896 registrations, followed by the Mitsubishi Pajero (1,274), Toyota Landcruiser (1,059), Jeep (Grand) Cherokee (1,047) and Honda CRV (1,007 registrations). Mitsubishi is likely to gain ground when it introduces the third Pajero generation in April 2000.

AUSTRIA: SLIGHT DECLINE IN CAR MARKET EXPECTED

Article Abstract:

Porsche Austria expects the sales of new cars in Austria to fall slightly to 300,000-305,000 units in 2001. Porsche aims to maintain a market share of no less than 309%. Last year <2000?> the company held 33.3% of the market. Overall car sales in Austria are estimated at 308,000 units. With sales fo 67,500 cars and commercial vehicles, Volkswagen held 20% of the total motor vehicle market.

AUSTRIA: DECLINE IN NEW CAR REGISTRATIONS

Article Abstract:

In the first quarter of 2001 new car registrations in Austria were down 4.5% from a year earlier, at about 83,000 units.
