AUSTRIA: CAR DEALERS JOIN FORCES IN INTERNET

Article Abstract:

In August 1999 Austrian car dealers are launching a common internet marketplace for used cars under www.kfzweb.at. The service will involve all car importers and ideally a very large number of car dealers. In Austria, used cars wait for buyers at dealers for 3-4 months on average, compared with 1 month or less in the US. Heinz Havelka, chairman of Austrian car dealers' association, says that car dealers could speed up turnover by exchanging used cars. Observers predict hat in ten years' time, 80% of car sales worldwide will take place via internet. In the US, this channel accounts for 10% of the sales of new cars and 30% of those of second-hand ones.
