AUSTRIA: FAST GROWTH EXPECTED IN EXPORTS

Article Abstract:

The research institute IHS is expecting Austria's exports to increase by 8.9% to Sch 892bn in 2000, against the earlier forecast of 7% and previous year's growth rate of 5.8%. The volume of world trade is expected to increase by about 9% as well. Over the past five years, Austria's exports increased by 41.3% and world trade by 6.3%. According to the research institute, Austria has catch-up demand in the important sector of information technology services. Austria's imports are expected to increase by 7.4% to Sch 977bn in 2000, after a 5.4% growth to Sch 888bn in 1999.

paging staff keep calling for money

Article Abstract:

Star Telecom company failed to pay provident fund with ranging from a few thousand Hong Kong dollars to HK$80,000 to staff who were previously laid-off. Only 4-5 out of the 373 staff have obtained the money. However, the Star Telecom responded that the fund was kept by the insurance company and the insurance company was unclear about the money. The staff plan to complain to ICAC and the police. *

AUSTRIA: PAGING SERVICES UNTIL 2002

Article Abstract:

Mobilkom Austria has announced that rescue services will be able to use pagers until 2002. However, paging will no longer be available to private clients from the end of year 2000. Originally the company had planned to end the service entirely at the end of the year, after the market collapsed due to increased use of mobile phones.
