Article Abstract:

Austria's Telecom Control Commission (TCK) has told Mobilkom Austria, the mobile phone subsidiary of Telekom Austria, to cut interconnection fees charged for calls from fixed-line networks to mobile phones to Sch 1.90 per minute by 1 April 2000 . TCK holds that mobile phone operators have used revenue from the fees for marketing and for offering subsidised phones and cheap call rates. TCK's head Heinrich Otruba says that rather than Sch 1, a call within a mobile phone network should cost Sch 3,80. The prices of calls from fixed-line networks to the mobile networks of also Mobilkom's competitors are expected to fall as a result of the ruling. The case against Mobilkom was initiated by UTA .
