AUSTRIA: NEW PLANT FOR FACC TO MANAGE BOEING JOB

Article Abstract:

Austrian Ried/Innkreis-based Fischer Advanced Composite Components (FACC) has started construction of a second production plant in order to fulfil a Sch 500mn contract from Boeing of the US. About 180 new staff will be hired for the new Sch 140mn facility in Reichersberg. FACC has developed and will produce at the new plant interior parts such as hand luggage compartments, interior linings, oxygen supplies and lighting for Boeing's 717 aircraft. FACC has been recording annual growth rates of 25% and currently has a turnover of Sch 636mn.

AUSTRIA: JOB CUTS AT LG PHILIPS DISPLAYS AUSTRIA

Article Abstract:

Lebring-based LG Philips Displays Austria GmbH, which belongs to the joint venture of Lucky Goldstar and Dutch Philips, is feeling the shrinking demand for PC screens on the world market. Therefore the Austrian monitor producer is making redundant another 70 part-time staff working on weekend shifts. This means that the workforce will shrink by 100 in the month of July 2001 alone. LG Philips Displays Austria currently has about 500 own and 300 leased workers (Trenkwalder, Adecco).
