AUSTRIA: SIG COMBIBLOC GOING TO ITALY

Article Abstract:

In 1999 the Austrian Saalfelden-based subsidiary of Swiss SIG Combibloc saw a marked improvement in profitability despite a 2.7% fall in turnover to Sch 2.055bn. Exports contribute 82% to sales. The company that has subsidiaries in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Russia has now been made responsible for the Swiss group's operations in Italy. In the latter market, the producer of food packaging sees increasing demand in the field of vegetable packaging. SIG Combibloc is to develop into a comprehensive service provider, including packaging plant and product consultancy rather than just producing the packaging. In the Austrian market that is led by TetraPak, SIG Combibloc holds a market share of about one-third. SIG packaging is used for the Ja naturlich! products of Billa, Cappy drink of Coca-Cola, and for products of Rauch and YO.
