AUSTRIA/GERMANY: VA STAHL EXPANDS STEEL SERVICE

Article Abstract:

VA Stahl AG has acquired a 25.1% stake in the German Stuttgart-based steel service centre Herzog Coilex, which has Thyssen-Krupp as a partner. Thus the Austrian steel maker strengthens its presence in the vicinity of clients. According to Die Presse, VA Stahl has spent Sch 170mn on the expansion of its steel-cutting centre in Linz. According to Der Standard, VA Stahl Service Center is investing Sch 200mn. VA Stahl's 43 Steel Service Centers in three countries employ 481 staff and generate an annual turnover of Sch 1.7bn.

AUSTRIA: VA STAHL TO INVEST IN NEW PLANT

Article Abstract:

Voest-Alpine Stahl (VA Stahl) is to invest Sch 1.2bn in a new hot-galvanising plant in Linz, Austria. The factory, which is to employ 88 people, is to be put into operation in the first quarter of 2003. The company is responding to the increasing demand for hot-galvanised steel in the vehicle industry.
